Off the Needles

Made up the pattern as I came to each section.
Bound off with - Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off But I only did this extra yarn over every 2nd or 3rd stitch.

I am going to work on writing up this pattern, re-knitting and publishing it.

Brainstorming

I re-swatched for my sweater. I got a bra-fitting at Nordstrom's and highly recommend that you do this if you haven't in awhile (or ever). I still need to take my measurements, wash my swatch and get moving!

------------------

On the Needles

I'm making mine using 6 skeins (425 yards of)
Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk Aran that I got on sale at my LYS a long time ago.

I'm on my 5th skein 1 week in! Love how quickly this is knitting up.

Mitts of my own design using Opal sock yarn
Finished 1 (except for the thumb). Need to cast on the second

Wicked Smaht Sox with the Wicked Smaht self-striping yarn by Emily of Fancy Pants Fiber Etsy Shop

Another pair of Stripy Socks with Paton’s Kroy.

Brainstorming

I'm starting to the holiday knitting bug.
I really like these Pleated Ballet Flats by cocoknits.
I also like this Loofah or Washcloth pattern by Jen Kobrick
Can't wait to have the mental capacity to start my Twigs and Willows Cardigan

Life in Focus
I talked about a Photo Tour of the North End of Boston I did with two friends.
Here are some fun photos from that trip.

We started out with an exercise using Shutter Priority to freeze the action of the water. It worked well for this, but I've still had a hard time replicating this with other non-steady motion.

View of the Zakem bridge from the Rose Kennedy Greenway

Let's see your summer (seasonal) photos. Come share them in the Summer Photo Challenge thread.

Greenway Open Market - I'll be going on August 31st

The Greenway Open Market is open on Saturdays from May 25 through October 26, 2013.

It's early but I'm excited for NY Sheep & Wool in Rhinebeck NY in October and SPA in Maine in February.

Crafty Adventures
I was fortunate to scrapbook with some of my very best girlfriends a couple weeks ago. In an attempt to get "caught up" on my scrapbooking, I am employing these cool Project Life supplies- a system created by Becky Higgins

We also started decorating our guest room. Eventually it will have a travel theme with some handmade art and decorations from our favorite vacation spots. This new quilt will tie things in nicely.

On a Happy Note

Knitting is my happy place. Especially when life is stressful.
Also enjoying the new season of Project Runway.

A happy note for you!

Tune in for a 25% off discount code for Brenda Castiel’s beautiful patterns.

Quote of the Week (which I forgot to include on the show. oops)

Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit, either.  ~Elizabeth Zimmerman

Episode 31- Bunny Parts

Thanks for tuning into Episode 31!
And thanks to Mom for joining me this week!

Off the Needles

Planche Vest by Meghan Jones
Learned the 3 Needle Bind Off (its WAY easier than it sounds)

Working on the last of this top down in the Down Cellar Studio
(to beat the heat)

Its Done!

After-Thought Heel Sock Pattern by Laura Linneman
--Mom thinks afterthought heel socks look more like puppets than socks

On the Needles
Socks by Theresa Gaffey from Wear With All Book

Started socks with Opal Sock yarn, but they're too narrow, so I'm turning them into fingerless mitts.

Sugar Bunny by Raynor Gellatly
Using leftover Lion Brand Baby Soft yarn & US 6 needles
Apparently it has a few more parts than I realized. But not as many as Mom alludes to.

Brainstorming
Mom is looking for a way to sell craft items from her former craft & gift store online. Do you have any insight you can share about how best to do this without a huge investment of time, even with items that may only be available once?

Please message Mom on Ravelry as BostonJensMom or email us at downcellarstudio@gmail.com

Mom has a blog drafted which can be found here.

From the Armchair

Tapgurlonthego Podcast & blog
Carmen is GREAT! Give her a listen!

WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia and yes, those phones can all message each other!

We highly recommend this book. 60 great blankets- a good variety for all skill level of knitters and all kinds of babies. Plus one really cute sheep

We were also fortunate to receive a shawl gem to review from Tix Trinkets. These little gems are a great way to keep your shawl on your shoulders or pinned together... or just to add some glitz. Terri (Mom to Katie from the Knitting on the Fly Podcast) has a great selection of colors and styles. She also offers a product called Better Than a Button which is a shorter version that will easily and stylishly close up your open front cardigan. Thank you Katie and Terri for this beautiful piece of functional jewelry! I recommend that you go check these out right away!
